96 maxima ignition switch problem?

96 Maxima ignition switch is not working right. I can turn the key and the dash lights come on but when i turn it to start it does nothing. its done this a couple times before but i was able to shimmy it and it would start. The car is stuck in a not-so-good part of town and has high end a/v equipment, so i need to get it home by tonite without a tow. All part stores are closed or dont have the part. Is there a quick fix to get it started? can i tap the 2 legs of the stator together with a screwdriver?
