Why do people misread words and names? Answer me that pls!!?

Sometimes it's the teachers fault. At least that was the case with a few of my nieces and nephews. The teacher told them during their spelling test - that if the letters were close to the proper spelling rather than the exact spelling of the word - Then that was good or close enough.
